Healthy Baked Mozzarella Sticks

If you like your cheese sticks super crunchy, substitute Panko for the bread crumbs. Panko is a Japanese bread crumb product that makes a very crunchy coating whether baking or frying. We swear by and use all the time. In fact, we haven’t bought bread crumbs in years. 

Panko can be found in Asian markets and often in the Asian aisle of your local grocery store.

Healthy Baked Mozzarella Sticks


  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 2-1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 12 sticks string cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1 cup marinara or spaghetti sauce, heated
